What is breath work?
"Breath work is an active meditation used to usher stagnant energy out of the body and help reframe the nervous system's response to traumas trapped in the body and cells," explains Jasmine Marie, a breath work practitioner and founder of Black Girls Breathing.
Some people use breath work to help with anxiety, heal from past traumas, increase focus, become more aware of self, help with depression and manage their stress better.
During breathwork you intentionally change your breathing pattern. There are many forms of breathwork therapy that involve breathing in a conscious and systematic way. An example of this would be breathing in for 4 seconds, holding your breath for 4 seconds, breathing out for 4 seconds, and holding for 4 seconds before starting again.
